Air
quality in the indoor environment of small children. Investigation of
the penetration of outdoor pollutants into homes and child
cares units.
Particles in the outdoor
environment are suspected to cause serious health effects in the general
population, and children have been suggested to be a sensitive subgroup.
Outdoors particles entering the indoors environmental may be one reason for the
adverse effects. A better knowledge about indoor particles and their origin can
increase the understanding about outdoor pollution and health effects, and also
serve as a basis for standards for indoor air quality, for particles with the
origin indoors and outdoors.
Exposure measurement
(PM2.5 and
Nitrogen dioxide) will be performed indoors/outdoors in 20 houses, 10 day care
centres and 10 schools. In all sites three one-month measurements will be
performed during one year. Chemical analyses will provide information about the
origin of the particles. The results will be applied in an ongoing birth-cohort
study of children’s asthma (BAMSE).
The results will be presented in
the scientific literature as well as in national and international conferences.
The progress of the study will be reported in "Arbets- och
miljömedicin" and on our web-site.
